THE first total fire ban for the fire season has been declared for the Mallee region on Wednesday.

Wednesday's conditions will be hot and windy across the state, with extreme fire danger in the Mallee expecting temperatures of up to 39 degrees, including Swan Hill, while the remainder of Victoria will reach mid-to-high 30s.
