INNER Wheel Club Swan Hill has raised thousands of dollars for two worthwhile causes thanks to its movie nights.
In September and late October, IWC held two movie nights at Swan Hill Showbiz Cinema, raising more than $3,000 for Swan Hill District Health to go towards equipment, and $2,800 for shelter for domestic violence victims.
IWC secretary Lyn Ward said they were delighted with their efforts.
“We managed to pack the theatre out both nights, which was really pleasing,” she said. “People enjoy watching movies much more when it’s full.
“We’ve raised quite a bit of money for the hospital over the years, so we always enjoy helping them out.
"But this was the first time we’ve done something for the safe shelter for domestic violence victims, which is, unfortunately, such a prevalent issue in our community.
“This funding is a perfect segway into our walk next week, where we’ll raise awareness on the issue.”
Ticket sales weren’t the only fundraiser, with raffles helping, said IW president Wendy Witty.
“We had a gas heater, a beautiful watch and vouchers, just to name a few, and I’d like to thank all those who donated these gifts, such as Camerons Fine Jewelers and My Two Girls, for helping make it such a successful event,” she said.
Attendees were treated to the lighthearted movies of Ticket to Paradise, and Mrs Harris Goes to Paris.
