LOWER Murray Water says customers may notice a change in the colour of water in the coming weeks, but it remains safe to drink.
The rural water supplier said floodwater had resulted in some blackwater within the Murray River.
Blackwater is the discolouration of water in the river, which is cause by high levels of tannins from organic material like fallen leaves and bark, and from trees and undergrowth.
“Our urban drinking water customers along the Murray River may notice a slight discolouration in their water supplies,” said LMW interim managing director Paul O’Donohue.
"We are currently fine tuning our water treatment plant processes and aim to reduce any potential discolouration.
"Please be assured that your water is completely safe to drink and within Australian Drinking Water Standards."
