Meat prices fall at last

IN GOOD news for cash-strapped consumers, retail prices for red meat have begun to fall after staying stubbornly high despite a crash in saleyard prices for livestock.

The lag has been blamed on a triple-whammy of rising costs, supply exceeding demand and ongoing workforce shortages at abattoirs.
