ON a quiet day at the Pioneer Settlement, it's often the clatter of Clydesdale horse Gemma that echoed through the yesteryear Mallee village.

But her prolific presence fell silent on Tuesday when she died peacefully at more than 20 years of age.

Swan Hill Council director of development and planning Heather Green said the attraction was "deeply saddened by the death of the much-loved resident".
