SWAN Hill firefighters have praised quick-thinking neighbours after a fire broke out in a Gray Street house.

It was unclear what started the October 28 fire, which began in the laundry.

No one was in the house at the time.

Swan Hill Fire Brigade fourth lieutenant Brendan Jilbert said "good Samaritans" tried to extinguish the flames with a garden hose.
