Moulamein Notes with China Gibson September 10

COVID in Balranald Shire.

THIS mongrel disease is getting close to us and it can get to us in the flick of an eye.

Evidently, there has, then there has not been, Covid in Balranald.

At the time of writing there is Covid in Balranald Shire – one, maybe two cases.

Be careful out there and book in for your vaccination, this is the only way we can beat this bloody thing.

I have heard a few mates say that they are not going to get the jab because they do not know enough about it.

What really gets me is that they are sucking on a fag at the time – read the side of the pack you buy these cancer sticks in.

Smoking has been investigated and surprise, surprise, these things have a good chance of killing you.

Smokers may not have noticed the side of the pack they are shortening their life with; but the effects are written there.

They will give you cancer, heart disease, emphysema, gangrene because of lack of circulation, and more problems that I have not got time to write about.

Then, because someone spends billions of dollars and a s****load of time to get these vaccines up and going to save their stupid lives, they will not get the jab because the vaccine has not been proven.

Smoking has been proven to kill them, and because they are a smoker, they are more likely to die from Covid.

But they still will not get the jab.

No problem – I will give them a call from the Bowling Club, because they will not have their jab passport and I will, and they will have to stay home.

Could everyone please consider getting the jab so we can get back to ‘Covid normal’?

We will never get back to ‘normal’ because someone ate a half-cooked bat.

It will not worry me in a fortnight, I will get my second jab so my lifestyle has more chance of killing me that the dreaded bat disease.

Please Consider Our Local Policewoman.

WE are now fortunate enough in our small town to have a police presence back – please do the right thing and if you are going to do something illegal, like have a BBQ with a few mates, or take a bloody party boat through town, or have some campers on the river in plain view of a main road, please think of our local copper.

Do not put her in a situation where she has to come out and book you almost five and a half grand each because you could not help but do a stupid thing.

Our country coppers do not want to book you, but they have a job to do.

If you make yourself obvious to everyone else, something will have to be done.

Please do not put our local copper in this situation – I very seldom leave the farm at the moment, but I still see and hear about these things going on.

So does our local copper, no doubt.

Weirs Filling Up.

WE are building up to a possible big flood, both our weirs on the Murrumbidgee are full.

One on 95% the other on 99% full and still rising.

The big worry is the Hume Dam on the Murray sitting on 98.5% and flood warnings above the Hume at the time of writing and they are letting over 30000 megs a day out.

If it stops raining, those in charge of the weirs will be heroes to keep so much water for the dry times.

If we get a normal year, they will be villains.

Unfortunately for those that live on the flood plains, La Nina is still out there which should mean a wetter than average year.

We could see where the one in one-hundred-year flood gets to, with all the new banks and roads around since the last big one in 1956.

From what I have seen with floods, it will get to where ever it wants to.

IT is about that time of the year when our Moulamein Men’s Shed does their battery drive, with all the funds from the battery drive going into restocking our rivers – the Edward, the mighty Billabong, and the Niemur and Wakool rivers.

We are still looking for catfish for our Moulamein Lake, and we are having trouble finding anyone that breeds them.

If anyone get point me in the right direction to get some, it would be much appreciated.
