Around the Churches March 4

ANGLICAN

TODAY is designated the World Day of Prayer by the World Council of Churches.

People will gather in churches all around the world using an order of service prepared by Christian women in England, Ireland and Wales.

Locally the services are at 10am at Swan Hill Anglican Church or at 1030am at Nyah West Uniting Church. All are welcome.

The Anglican Parish of Swan Hill will hold its annual parish meeting this Sunday following the regular Sunday worship service.

We are also now in the season of lent and Ven.

Peter will lead a Lenten study series based on the New Testament letter of 1 Peter.

The series is called ‘Strangers in the World’.

The studies are not an academic exercise. They are more of a discussion group, following some guided questions on the passage through the six weeks of lent.

They are held on Wednesday at 11.15am or Sunday evening in the parish foyer, and also at Nyah West on Wednesday afternoons. You can contact the parish for details.

Looking further ahead, we have locked in the date of June 5 (which is Pentecost) for the celebration of All Saints Nyah West centenary.

Please continue to pray for Ukraine and Eastern Europe, generally, as they deal with the war directly as well as the flow-on effects of hardships and especially the flow of several hundred thousand refugees fleeing into neighbouring countries.

It has been heartening to see on the news many Ukrainians turning to their faith for help at this time.

Ukrainian Orthodox and Catholic churches have a long history there and we join our fellow Christians in praying that God will bring about a new chapter of hope and compassion and peace in the life of this nation.
