MICHELLE Kerley is the new senior sergeant at Swan Hill police, and comes with a decorated career in the force.
Snr Sgt Kerley has been a detective for most of her career, having worked with the Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU), crime squads and taskforces in Melbourne.
Describing her career as “diverse”, Snr Sgt Kerley also taught law at the academy.
“I taught for around 18 months, and it has been the most rewarding role of my career,” she said.
“I taught some of the members here at Swan Hill and I am very proud of them.”
Snr Sgt Kerley was one of the only female members in her squad when she joined the Victorian Police Academy in 1986, and she’s also proud to see how many more women are joining the service.
“I’m pleased to see that we have about half and half male to female ratios, it comes down to being the best person for the job,” she said.
Since transferring to Swan Hill in June Ms Kerley said she has been “over the moon” to join the town and is looking forward to getting out and about in the community.
