THE court case of a man who allegedly killed an off-duty police officer in Sea Lake last year has been delayed for at least a month.
On Tuesday before the Mildura Magistrates’ Court, a solicitor for accused Bryan Hanns, said counsel had not been provided with a transcript or audio from a cross examination three weeks ago.
During the examination two medical experts – a now retired general practitioner and a psychiatrist, gave sworn evidence.
Both had treated Mr Hanns prior to the fatal collision on November 12 last year.
Police will allege the 57-year-old was driving a car along Sea Lake Lascelles Road at Sea Lake when his vehicle hit Leading Senior Constable Dennis Cox, who was riding a bicycle.
In February this year, a detective from the Major Collision Investigation Unit charged Mr Hanns with culpable driving causing death, driving in a manner dangerous causing death, driving in a manner that was dangerous to the public and careless driving.
An OPP prosecutor said she had requested a copy of the transcript and audio from the compulsory examination but said there was no real explanation for the delay.
Magistrate Michael Coghlan granted a four-week adjournment, instead of the requested eight weeks.
The committal mention was adjourned to August 10.
