Five teams remain in premiership race

FIVE junior teams remain in the hunt for premiership glory as the Central Murray Football Netball League prepares for semi-final weekend.

WOORINEN was comprehensive in its 46-point win over Cohuna in Saturday’s qualifying final.

Jose Miliado and Baily Fry booted two goals each for the winners, while Austin Robinson managed a double for the Kangas.

Tiger Billy Torr and Kanga Flynn Appleby were their sides’ best on ground.

The victory meant the Tigers retained the double chance and the opportunity to have a crack at top side Tyntynder in Saturday’s second semi-final at home.

The sides met once this year, at Alan Garden Memorial Reserve in Round 12, with the Bulldogs coming away with a 30-point win.

Koondrook Barham advanced to the other semi-final after it beat Lake Boga by 31 points in Sunday’s elimination final.

The Pies’ season came to an end, despite the best efforts of Nelson Ibbs, Naythan Downing and Corey Oxley.

Matthew Taverna and Jesse Kiel were strong in attack for Boga with two majors each, but it wasn’t enough to match the Raiders’ nine goals.

The Raiders take on the Kangas, who proved too strong for them when the sides met at Barham back in Round 10.

COHUNA won the right to take on top team Balranald for a spot in the grand final by defeating Koondrook Barham on Saturday.

The Kangas won the qualifying final by 35 points, retaining the double chance into week two of the finals.

Josh Bird, Jamie Harrison and Jontie Goulding will go in to the second semi-final in good form, with Bird on-song in attack with three majors. He was ably supported by Sam McGlone with two.

Their opponents will be confident though, with the Roos coming away with a two-point victory when the sides met at Cohuna in Round 17.

The Raiders will take on Tyntynder in the knockout semi-final, after the Bulldogs beat Mallee Eagles by 33 points in Sunday’s elimination final.

Raiders Luke Nicholas, Jack Shannon and Matt Thomas battled hard in last weekend’s loss and will be keen to turn the result around on Sunday.

They will need to stop Bulldogs James Sala and Malik Bell who were in-form with three goals in the elimination final against the Eagles.

Sala, along with Alex Smith-Ralph, was central to Tyntynder’s win.

Logan Nalder, Ethan Pinchen, Tyler Sixsmith and Ryan Zanker all managed a goal for the Eagles but it wasn’t enough to match Tyntynder’s output in attack.

Sunday’s first semi-final should be interesting, with Koondrook Barham winning by nine points when the Raiders and the Bulldogs met in Round 17.
