Tigers rule the Garden

WOORINEN won their thirteenth match of the season, defeating Tyntynder at Alan Garden Reserve by a staggering 105 points.

The Tigers brilliant midfield work and fantastic interceptions were the key reasons why they managed to get the 6.4 (40) to 21.19 (145) score line.

Jose Miliado and Josh Stone returned for Woorinen after missing last week’s clash against NNW United, both were keen to have a solid performance on the day.

It was the Tigers who were on the board first, and they controlled the footy for the majority of the first quarter, leading the Bulldogs by 28 points.

Tyntynder did get on the board a little bit more in the second quarter kicking three goals, but their defensive team couldn’t contain the Tigers as the lead was brought up to 40 points by half-time.

Woorinen went out in the second half and utilised the wings kicking six goals in the third quarter alone.

The interception rate was first class for the entire quarter almost not allowing Tyntynder to get the ball in their forward fifty at all.

The fourth quarter would be a replica of the third, with the Tigers having the footy in their forward fifty for the majority of the quarter and kicking in five goals.

In the end, Woorinen would finish up with ten different goal scorers, with Jose Miliado and Kyle Skeen both bagging four goals each.

Tigers head coach Tim Free spoke with The Guardian after the contest, clearly happy with the win along with how the newer boys who joined the side on the day stood up and performed.

“It was an important win for us, we had some newer players join the side today who got some opportunities on the back of strong performances in the reserves,” Free said.

“They took those opportunities really well, and as the game went on, we used the footy really well and we were able to capitalise on the scoreboard.”

Free was full of praise for the returning Jose Miliado who had a big effect on the game.

“He was a bit disappointed when he missed last week’s game but he was feeling rather sore after Lalbert,” Free said.

“So it was great to not only have him back in the game, but for him to be able to get through the entire game and get a good run on the legs.

“I think him and the rest of the boys will appreciate a rest next week, then we can recuperate before we take on Lake Boga in a fortnight.”

The midfield work and interceptions from the Tigers was phenomenal all game long, Free praising Matt Gardner and Kane Reid for their performance in the backline.

“I thought it was a the key highlight of our game today,” Free said.

“Matt Gardner and Kane Reid were phenomenal in that area of the game across the half back to be able to intercept the footy and help us springboard it back the midfield and towards the forward line.

“The ball movement was first class as well, so they were really good contributors today.”

Free had a strong stance on whether the Tigers were confident about finals, stating that they are only focused on looking to what is ahead of them.

“For us, we are more focused on what is ahead of us, we have Lake Boga after the bye so we won’t be looking any more forward than that,” Free said.

“We will recover well, and then we will train and prepare well like any other week.

“Some boys will be getting some treatment during the break but I’m confident we will have a full and healthy list by the time we face up the Magpies.”
