Threadgold champion again

JOHN Threadgold won this year’s Table Tennis Club Championship with a strong four-set win over a brave Jason Mangiameli.

Threadgold has been the dominate player over the last four years and his sheer power simply overwhelms most players. Mangiameli had a tough draw, twice coming from two sets to zero down to make the final.

Mangiameli had a big night teaming with Tayte Tants to make the final of the A Grade doubles. Unfortunately, they were no match for the experienced Mario Mangiameli and the “Spin King” Santhosh Gunasekaran. These two complemented each other very well and they easily won the final in three tight sets.

Luke Burge won the B Grade Singles Championship defeating a nervous Chaz Tallboys in four entertaining sets. Burge’s attacking game proved too strong for Tallboys’ defensive play.

There was a surprise result in the B Grade Doubles where Kevin Burge and Shane Threadgold defeated the highly fancied Norman Campbell and Ben Comitti.

A special mention to the large crowd who wore Shane Threadgold portrait t-shirts that added to the night’s atmosphere.
