TUESDAYS are tennis days for Swan Hill Home of Projects participants, with coaching from Danielle Delmenico set to take them to a new level.
Participants were welcomed to their first session with three new rackets, clothes and a host of other equipment, Mrs Delmenico sourced through Tennis Australia and TennisAid.
“Martin Rocca at TennisAid organised all this gear for The SHOP to use after I was told they needed some new equipment,” she said.
“The new balls have less gas in them than regular balls so they have lower density, they’re easier to hit and they don’t roll as far if you miss.
“I’ve volunteered to run a class with them to help improve their skills and just have some fun.”
After the participants selected some new activewear for themselves, training was on.
Mrs Delmenico ran The SHOP participants through coordination exercises, balancing the balls on their rackets, rolling and stopping the ball, a few hits and throwing and catching.
The SHOP manager Tracey Wareham joined in the fun as participants showed each other their own tricks and hand-eye-coordination games.
“We do tennis every Tuesday, but with the coach it’s going to reach a higher level,” she said.
“Danielle has already given us new skills this session. It’s great for promoting fitness, teamwork, fun and inclusion. We’re very grateful for the new gear to keep going.”
