Band Wars over for Yung Gunz

SWAN Hill band Yung Gunz has won a mentorship after performing in the grand-final of the nationally televised music competition Band Wars.

The five-member rock band was unsuccessful in its bid to win the talent quest against seven other grand-final contestants at Musicland in Melbourne.

However, the musicians’ talents didn’t go unnoticed, with judges awarding them a consolation prize and saying they had a “huge future”.

“They did win an award, it was called a ‘rock down’ award, which won them mentorship on teaching them how to do radio interviews,” band manager Stuart Holt said.

Mr Holt said the judges were still yet to send over their written feedback, but he was himself pleased with how the band went, given the stiff competition it was up against.

“The nearest age of bands would’ve been 22 or 23… There was nearly 10 years difference between them,” he said.

“The guys that won, their bass player probably would’ve been 60… so they were up against some very, very professional, full-time musicians.”

Mr Holt said a large contingent of Swan Hill locals made the journey to Melbourne to support the band, while a number of Swan Hill expatriates in Melbourne also came along to see what the fuss was all about.

Yung Gunz will now turn their focus over to the Fairfax Festival on September 18, where they will join new local prodigy Hellicity in supporting Dean Ray, of X Factor fame.
