Control or deliver: Election launched

SUNDAY morning saw the battle lines of the November state election drawn, with each party rallying their members and constituents to support them at the ballot box.

The simultaneous campaign launches took place at opposite ends of the city, with Premier Daniel Andrews promising to deliver for all, and Liberal leader Matthew Guy pledging to regain control.

Labor launched their campaign at Monash University’s Clayton campus, announcing a total $1.38 billion in promises to deliver services “to all Victorians”.

Health and education were Mr Andrews’ main talking points.

But, while Labor promised a splash of cash in the health sector, few regional areas were named, with new hospitals promised to Phillip Island, Torquay, Cranbourne, Craigieburn, Sunbury, Pakenham, Eltham, Fishermans Bend, Whittlesea and Point Cook.

A royal commission into mental health, “strengthened” nurse and patient ratios and more paramedics were among the commitments Mr Andrews announced the party would deliver, should Labor prove successful at the polls on November 24.
