Tigers battle to tough win

AN understrength Woorinen was forced to earn their 11th win of the season with a hard fought four-goal win over Tyntynder on Saturday.

Meg Young made her A grade debut for the Tigers in their 47-43 win, with the victory keeping Woorinen in the hunt for a top three finish and the prized double chance.

With the Tigers having the bye this Saturday, their path to the top three will become clearer, with Woorinen coach Tayla Bennett acknowledging her team has improvement within them over the coming games.

“Tyntynder came out firing and we didn’t make our best start, we had some late withdrawals due to illness and it took us longer to adjust,” Bennett said.

“We’ll take the win and look forward to what comes after the bye and keep building towards finals.

“We know we have more to give, but just need to all to work together for four consistent quarters.”

Bennett led the scoring for Woorinen with 32 goals despite the best efforts of Tyntynder goal keeper Bridgette King, who earned special praise from Bulldogs co-coach Bridget Dedini post-match.

“Bridgette King was amazing at goal keeper, she won so many steals and played out of her skin,” Dedini said.

“Demi Wall up the other end was fantastic also, she shot beautifully and combined really well with Kim Calvert filling in.

“It was a great game and all the girls played so well, especially since we had a late change with Violet (Corrie) going out also, so it was great to see the girls all combine so well.”

FINAL WHISTLE
